The bELIeve Act Right To Try For Terminally Ill Children Senate Bill 572

As you are aware I, Paul Matthews, have been working with our local State Representative Andrew E. Dinniman and his team to get Senate Bill 572 (the bELIeve Act Right to try) passed. Right now the bill is with the Senate Health & Human Services Committee. The Committee chairs are responsible for calling the bill to vote or scheduling a committee hearing.

WE NEED EVERYONE to email the representatives in the link below and request that they call the bill to vote. We are requesting that you please sent an e-mail to each representative on the list, we need to flood their inboxes with e-mails about Senate Bill 572.

We have drafted a simple e-mail, so all you have to do is open a new e-mail, copy the text below into a new message open the link above to get the e-mail address’ for each representative.

Dear Committee Chair,

I am writing in regard to Senate Bill 572 and asking that you fully support this bill.

Additionally, I am requesting that you call the bill to vote within your committee.

Below is the link for Eli’s story. Eli is the reason for this Bill and the reason why we NEED to get this passed. Eli passed away on January 20, 2011…..the day his Father dedicated his life to find a cure for Childhood Cancer, the day his Father dedicated his life to honor his loving son, the day his Father dedicated his life to do anything to save the lives of so many children.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month……..my request is that Senate Bill 572 moves forward in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness month.

Thank You

Hot Wheels From Heaven

We will touch the world #HotWheelsFromHeaven interactive. For many of you that have followed Eli’s story and my post you are aware that years ago while I was visiting Eli’s gravesite all of his Hot Wheels were stolen. In that moment I was so upset with tears running down my face and pure ANGER wishing very bad things on the thief. I left, bought more HOT WHEELS and returned to place them on the headstone. While driving home it hit me “daddy HOT WHEELS FROM HEAVEN” (Turn this negative into a positive, a message from my HERO in life my son Eli). Since that message the Eli Seth Matthews Leukemia Foundation has sent Hot Wheels to all 50 States one Children’s hospital in each. Thousands and Thousands of HOT WHEELS delivered to children FIGHTING for their lives. And we are doing it again!

I have tagged Eli’s gravesite the location this all began. Now when someone reads the “GOLD” sticker:

The bELIeve ACT Right to try for Terminally Ill Children

Dear Eli Warriors,

I need your help to pass a new law in Pennsylvania that will help save the lives of children suffering from pediatric cancer and other terminal illnesses.

“The bELIeve Act” calls for requiring insurance providers to cover potentially life-saving clinical trials and the related treatment for terminally ill children in Pennsylvania.

I have worked closely with state Senator Andy Dinniman and his staff to write this legislation in memory of my son, Eli, and for the benefit so many other children and young people who are so bravely battling cancer and other serious illnesses.

We worked on this legislation after we heard and personally experienced stories of insurance companies denying pediatric cancer patients access to potentially life-saving treatments.

Now, we need your help in the first step to getting it passed.

Please contact your Pennsylvania State Senator and ask them to sign on as a co-sponsor to Senator Dinniman’s “the bELIeve Act” (or The Right to Try for Terminally Ill Children Act).

Friends, I have no doubt that the road to making this bill law will be long, arduous and challenging. But I need your help in this crucial first step. The more co-sponsors we have, the better chance we have of getting the bill passed.

Let’s stand together and work to ensure that no insurance company can deny a child, no matter how ill, access to potentially life-saving drugs, therapies, trials or related treatment.

You can find out who your state Senator is and how to contact them here

Woman wanted in charity donation box theft turns herself in

Landhope Farms Theft Update: SUSPECT IN CUSTODY
At approximately 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 the suspect in the theft of the charity box from Landhope Farms turned herself in at the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office in Elkton. Patricia Desirea Alexander, 26 of Red Lion, PA was taken into custody and charged for the theft and is also currently being held on unrelated warrants at the Cecil County Detention Center. The Sheriff’s Office thanks the hundreds of thousands of people across the United States that viewed the images, shared tips, or sent their support to BraveEli.com. #CecilSheriffFB_IMG_1485038100050

A woman was caught on camera stealing a collection box full of money from a Port Deposit convenience store.
It contained $150 collected to help children with cancer in memory of Eli Seth Matthews, a 10-year old who lost his battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia six years ago.
“With tomorrow being the passing of our son, Eli, in January 20, 2011, with all of this happening, it’s something we didn’t need to have on our shoulders—the stress of it,” said Eli’s father, Paul Matthews.
That stress shifted to the suspect after her picture blew up on social media.
And now, she has turned herself in.
“Around seven o’clock last night, the suspect who we identified as Patricia Desirea Alexander turned herself in here at the Sheriff’s Office,” said Sgt. Michael Kalinsky, “She’d become aware of the social media uproar in regards to the video that had been posted and your story.”
Eli’s father is now celebrating news of the arrest.
“When I found out that she turned herself in, it was an absolute and amazing thing and an amazing feeling,” said Matthews, “It was like retribution what has happened for the kids.”
The Eli Seth Matthews Leukemia Foundation has been acknowledged for two breakthroughs for infant leukemia and recently helped a child by helping him get a trial drug that saved his life.
Police say the suspect in this case, Alexander, has a heroin addiction.
“The person to me is still evil in the sense of stealing from the children, and I want everyone to understand out there if you have an addiction like that, understand these children are fighting to live, like my son—he was fighting for his life to live,” said Matthews, “He would want to have a life that you’re throwing away for whatever reason or addiction you have.”

Since the theft, both the Landhope Farms convenience store where it happened and one of its customers who is a military vet have both stepped up with $300 donations to more than make up for the loss, not to mention a host of total strangers.
“The outpouring and understanding that want to help the children, it’s been amazing.  So with this person being in jail, I’m hoping that this would maybe save her life from the direction she’s going in and has chosen in her life and remember the children are fighting so hard to live,” said Matthews, “Thank you so much everyone who helped and shared the story from abc2news.com.  It was amazing.  Amazing.”

According to charging documents, Alexander, 26, of Red Lion, PA told detectives she cashed the change from the theft at Martins in Rising Sun and tossed the empty donation box out of her car window along the road in the area of Jacob Tome Highway and Conowingo Road.
